Plainfield Indiana kitchen and sunroom remodel picture gallery

Project Description

The existing kitchen was in a dark corner, cut off from the adjacent sunroom and its views of the backyard pool. The little used dining room was stuck in the front corner and the front entry way and powder room were cramped and restricting.

The goal was to open up everything into one spacious cooking and entertaining area. A view to the pool at the rear was also a must. Our solution involved engineering a structural beam to replace the wall behind the old kitchen sink, allowing the entire wall to be removed making the sunroom space part of the kitchen. It was also important that the second floor not fall down in the process!

The new sink island and breakfast bar delineates the eating area/ hearth room spaces from the working part of the kitchen without compromising the views and still encouraging connection to the “people spaces” and the outdoors. Custom cherry cabinets, granite tops and top of the line stainless steel appliances, including a wine chiller, all work together to blend cooking, and conversation with ‘The Heart of the House”.

The old dining room was converted to a “library like” flex space and made part of the kitchen by surrounding its walls with wet-bar, built-ins and cabinetry, all made to match the kitchen.  When more formal dining is required the flex space becomes a dining room. But the daily use is a cozy seating area that communicates with the cook.
